A New Day
This early poem for me parallels my devotion I just posted, so I'm posting it alongside.
The rising sun breaks through the clouds; The morning air is crisp and fresh. Birds sing their waking song; Squirrels eat in selfishness. The sounds of each blessed morning Bring thoughts of a brand new day; Each thought of life lifts my soul As the breeze gently finds its way. The trees holding their branches high Contain secrets of the ancient past, A past of which I have no part, A past only a faint shadow cast. As the sun rises higher, The flower-scented air warms. The redbud offers rest to a robin, Both having seen violent storms. Life can be so wonderful, Yet life can be harsh and unkind. Carefully sought should be the paths, For only one is straight-the others wind. ©1986 Kelly L. Hartley
