I Knew You Before
You knew me before I arrived in this world. You designed a reason for my living; You gave me everything I would need, Even the passion by which I am driven. Yet through the years I walked with blinded eye, Growing up in selfish wakelessness. Empty words from my mouth would come, Simply given so others I might impress. After my youth, I trudged through the mire Until I bumped into a depressive thought. Rememb'ring You, I turned around and asked, "Why am I here? Is this all for nought?" Your answer knocked me to the ground When You quietly said, "I put you here. Do you think I designed you to fail? No, I elected you to be the tip of my spear. "Just like Jeremiah and David I knew you- I knew you before your heart first beat, Before your first drawn breath of air. I know you now and everyone you'll meet. "It's those, and others, that need My help, And My plans are for you to duly deliver All the necessary words and deeds. You see, My child, you are my minister." Now as I continue my traipsing through life, With knots complex or feeling gutshot, Even when everyone else seems done with me, With a smile of grace I know, at least, God's not.
